HOOSIER Pro Dirt Series - Round #5

“CRAIG WINS AN EPIC BATTLE”

As the rain came down days prior to and during Saturday it was looking like we might not even get a race in at Bunbury Speedway for the 5th Round of the Hoosier Pro Dirt Series. But the rain gods smiled on us and all the fans that came out for a few hours and the track crew did a great job massaging the track surface enough to get the racing underway.

Craig and the TVR #8 team coming off 2 straight wins in the previous events were looking forward to hitting the track at Bunbury which Craig rates as one of favourite venues. Craig says “ The management & fans at Bunbury are both passionate and always appreciate us coming down and putting on a show, I have always loved this place and we have had some great results here over the years, no more than this one!!”

The Bunbury track with the natural rain and track prep was in great shape and super fast opening up a few grooves which lead to some of the best Late Model action ever witnessed at the venue.

Craig in his #8 Worldwide Machinery Racemate Valvoline Rocket won his first heat comfortably and came from the rear of his second heat to finish 4th.

Starting from outside pole in he won the 8 lap dash to earn pole for the main event.

Craig chose to start outside pole in the final and was beaten off the line by Oldfield and then passed by Blake, he battled hard over the next few laps to make his way past Blake for 2nd and set after Oldfield. As the leaders came into lapped traffic Craig closed in on Oldfield and took the lead with a blistering outside move. He opened up a buffer until a lap 22 caution which bunched everyone back up again. What the crowd witnessed from then on was an epic battle and some most awesome late model racing ever seen between firstly Craig and Blake swapping positions, then in the final laps Oldfield and Craig as Oldfield tried the high groove to make his move.

Craig held on to take the win by a narrow margin as the crowd rose to their feet acknowledging all the drivers and probably knowing that it might be a while before they see another race in any division as good as the one they just witnessed.

Next race is Saturday night 7th December at the Perth Motorplex.
