Vosbergen Crowned King

In a masterful drive TVR driver Craig Vosbergen has taken out the King of the Ring at Albany’s Attwell Park Speedway.

Vosbergen showed his rival just how to triumph in adversity and to fight against the odds from stewarding decisions that didn’t go his way.

During the heats he had two good drives, only to be penalized after heat one. He had crossed the line second, but it was decided that he had made an illegal pass and was ordered back two positions resulting in an official placing of fourth.

His second heat was a case of making enough points up to make the top six dash and he did it in fine style powering his way to the front and showing all class to take out a fine win.

This gave him starting position four for the dash, and he was able to gain one position, giving him an inside second row start for the all important 30 lap King of the Ring final.

Come the final and all the hard work his excellent team perform each week on the Worldwide Construction Machinery/Racin Tyres & Accessories #8 Rocket shone through, as he settled in nicely running the top three, and as his competitors fell from the race with mechanical problems or by making mistakes, he used his experience as one of Western Australia’s best to lead for nearly the entire race.

He crossed the line well in front of his nearest rival, and after his victory lap performed a number of 360 spins ‘burnout style’ to say thank you to the appreciative crowd.

“This track tonight was all that it’s been talked about” he said in victory lane afterwards. “I’ve also got to thank the crowd for coming out here tonight, my fabulous crew, my sponsors and Rob Dewar from Champion Canopies for making this Pro Dirt Series possible.

Unfortunately team mate Bert had a night to forget in his WCM/Royal Wolf Rocket. He was up against it all night as he too was penalised not once, but twice by the stewards and stopping him from what might have been a front row start for the final. His woes continued when contact during the main event caused damage to his #4 machine.

After the racing he was philosophical “I had a fast car, but after the contact the brakes weren’t working, making me think I had steering problems, so I decided to head infield and play it safe.”

Team VOS now heads into its Christmas break to prepare for the next meeting for the LMRA when they return to the Perth Motorplex on December 27, which will be the teams final hit out before the big WA Championship meeting at Manjimup on January 3 next year.
