With the first Round now done & dusted the TVR & RACIN crew have a chance to take a breath now !! The #8 Rocket was late getting to the opening round at Ellenbrook due to the last minute sale & collection of their racecar trailer on Thursday evening and then the arrival of the Hoosier Tire Container from the USA on 4pm Friday afternoon!! As the first heat was taking to the track the TVR crew which just arriving into the pits, having missed the drivers brief and pill draw we started ROF in the 2nd heat were we ended up finishing 2nd spending most of the race checking gauges, brakes etc and getting a feel for the car. We then ran 2nd in the B dash from position 4 and was reasonably happy with the car on the slick & dusty Ellenbrook surface. Starting 8th in the A Main we worked our way into 2nd position by the end of the 35 laps with some close racing along the way, we tried for several laps to get the top groove working to help our move forward but after being shuffled back a few positions decided that being the lone ranger on the highline wasn’t going to work so we just edged away down the bottom. The last 15 laps of the race the rear end started howling which I thought was the diff gears giving up, turns out the upper bearing in the diff hat exploded and was no longer there which was evident when we went to the scales after the race and left a pool of oil on the scale pad!! So in hindsight we were lucky to finish. Everyone at TVR is pleased with the result and have taken the car home in good shape and a 2nd place finish.
